  1. Lipid emulsions were prepared by the method described previously [36] using a high-pressure emulsifier. The emulsion used had a particle size of 34.7 ± 5.2 nm and a weight ratio of TO/PC was 1.63 ± 0.07. For the generation of apoE-EM complex, apoE at various concentrations, from 0.1 to 30 μg/ml, was incubated with EM at PC concentration of 5.0 μg/ml in a 5-ml solution for 1 hr at room temperature. The apoE-EM complex was isolated and assayed by the untracentrifugation method as previously reported [24, 37]. The weight ratio of apoE and PC were determined as described in the Experimental Procedures. Data are means ± S.E. of four samples.
