Differentially regulated genes that become activated or inhibited within the first few hours from injury, reported as early injury genes. Examples of molecular responses (pathways) identified in normal rodent spinal cord after mechanical injury, according to the pathway analysis of recent transcriptomic studies of SCI [28, 29]. We report information regarding the functional and neuropathological effects that each reported gene may have, based on an overview of published data. The nature of the differential regulation and the location of the transcriptional change with regard to the epicenter of injury are also reported. Blue color indicates an increase in gene expression. Red color indicates a decrease in gene expression.
