Exercise-mediated protection against METH-induced disruption of the BBB. Mice were exercised as described in Figure 2 and exposed to METH (10 mg/kg) for 1 h. The BBB integrity was evaluated by i.p. injecting 100 μl 2% sodium fluorescein (NaF). Fifteen minutes post NaF injection, permeability across the BBB was calculated in the discrete brain regions (hippocampus, cortex, and putament) as the ratio of fluorescence in the brain tissue to plasma. The data are mean SEM, n = 5. *As compared to the respective controls at *p < 0.05, **p < 0.01, or ***p < 0.001. Data in the exercised group are significantly different as compared to the respective treatment in the sedentary group at ††p < 0.01 or †††p < 0.001.
