The figure depicts the effects non-coding disease associated variants can have on molecular and cellular phenotypes. These effects can be assessed through QTL analyses that identify significant associations between the dosage of the allele and various traits depicted, including histone modifications, transcription factor binding, chromatin accessibility and gene expression. These alterations finally lead to altered cellular phenotypes that subsequently translate to tissue level and organismal dysregulations and disease risk modification
