Cultured neurons were incubated with serum-free N2 medium containing 37 Bq/ml [14C]acetate for 3 days at 37°C. These neurons were washed in DMEM three times and further incubated in DMEM for 1 h in the presence of the apoE-EM complex at various apoE concentrations. The conditioned media were then collected and the amounts of [14C]-labeled cholesterol and PC released were determined. The amounts of cholesterol and PC released into the conditioned media in the presence of apoE3-EM (○) or apoE4-EM (●) are shown. Data are means ± S.E. of four samples. *p < 0.01 and **p < 0.005 vs apoE4-EM. Six independent experiments showed similar results.Back to article page
