Each sample was scored based on % of CDN neurons stained and the staining intensity. 0 = no staining; 1 = very few cells stained or weakly stained; 2 = moderate staining, 5-10% of the CDN neurons; 3 = 10-25% moderately to strongly stained; 4 = more than 25% strongly stained; 5 = more than 50% strongly stained. The p-values were calculated with Student's t-test, 2-tailed.
