Flow chart of the screening outcomes. The ZF assay can be used to identify neuroprotective compounds that act at different points in the cascade of mutant sod1 mediated toxicity. Inhibitors would potentially impact the earliest event in sod1 toxicity by reducing the toxic effects of mutant sod1. Activators may potentially further activate the neuroprotective stress response thus ameliorating the effects of sod1 toxicity
