Timeline of classical neurodegenerative diseases and inflammation-driven neurodegenerative disease. In the neurodegenerative diseases AD and PD, neuronal degeneration is the primary pathology, while inflammation is consecutively observed. On the other side, in MS, inflammation is thought to be the primary pathophysiological event, leading to neuronal degeneration.
